This sportfishing refit brought together a series of upgrades to transform the boat from a cruising setup into a tournament ready fishing platform.
The goal was to take a boat that had primarily been used for cruising and prepare it for serious offshore fishing in time for the White Marlin Open. That meant planning and coordination, because the outriggers, rocket launcher, electric reels, additional rod holders and antennas all had to work together on a tight deadline.
The work
This project involved much more than simply adding fishing equipment.
- Outrigger installation, which required relocating existing antennas to create the necessary clearance
- A rocket launcher installation planned around the boat's structure, worked through directly with Rupp so it was properly supported
- Electric reels, additional rod holders and the wiring to run them
- Antenna relocation and re-routing so nothing fouled the riggers
With multiple upgrades happening at once, the focus throughout was making sure each addition worked as part of the boat rather than simply being added to it.
Why we like these
Projects like this are fun because they start with how the owner wants to use the boat. This Post 50 was already a great cruising boat, but the goal was to make it more functional for tournament fishing without taking away from what made it a great boat in the first place.
The finished setup gave the owner the fishing capability he wanted while keeping the boat clean, functional and comfortable for cruising. And seeing it put to work during White Marlin Open, including bringing a winning dolphin to the scales, was a pretty great way to see the project come together.
